The day at the DERWENTSIDE IRC went quiet beautifully as it was very peaceful.
A very reasonable turn out and people paid their solidarity with the incarcerated women inside the the detention centre.
The weather was gloomy and a call for cadgan was necessary.
A van trying to take a lady out of the centre met with resistance from the activists blocking it from coming out of the gate. A police car was dispatched but could not do much to allow the van to go past the gate.
All day went by with people chanting slogans of solidarity sharing ideas and views. In the end we took part in lighting some flares as a sign of support to the detained women. We could hear them shouting in appreciation to what we were all doing from the perimeter fence.
What a day of success. Beverages were saved and sausages were also abailable for the people to tuck in. Slogans like No BORDERS No Nations Detention Centres Must Fall were chanted through out the day. It was really good..
