A WALK FOR FREEDOM CAMPAIGN FOR ZIMBABWE ; Scarborough -Whitby By Dickson Chikwizo (photos will be added later)
Saturday the 12th September 2026 WALK FOR FREEDOM Campaign Journey begins!
I arrived at Scarborough Sainsbury's car park, around 08:30hrs, as a passenger in Rumbi Chidewu's vehicle which took me to Scarborough from Leicester.
It started to rain later as it had been promised by the weather forecast.
A dedicated big number of activists turned up regardless of the cold rain which was pounding. The rain stopped an hour later. We started the walk following a fixed path named Cinder Track, in the community, then connected to an old railway line.
A united force of activists, chain of solidarity now stretching across Scalby, Claughton, Claughton, Ravenscar, Robin Hood's Bay, High Hawsker, and our destination Whitby.
It was a pleasure to see UK's Second World War Defence Instruments: Chain of Radar Stations built in 1941 and 1942 to detect an approaching invasion fleet, at Ravenscar; Accommodation Buildings, Coastguard Station, and Transmitter.
Walk For Freedom continued at Robin Hood's Bay, with 25km in the bag, it was a time to sing and dance! the spirit which delights in variety and holds us together with our own deepest experiences, free from fear, anxiety, persecution, and uncertainty.
It was freedom in motion, our feet were light and our voices louder!!
Caring by sharing the words of each song is and caring is a sign of love, we're bonded as one person!!!
Along the railway line I saw, the beauty of the coastal views and an extremely giant bridge which was left to die, near Whitby.
A spirit of commitment, endurance and perseverance motivated, Rashiwe Bayisayi, John Burke, Dickson Chikwizo and Romeo Kambanga to complete the WALK FOR FREEDOM CAMPAIGN JOURNEY by our arrival at Whitby's Railway Station.
A wild cheer took over, as we celebrate jumping up and down after enduring a 24 miles WALK FOR FREEDOM CAMPAIGN in a day!!!
My main push to succeed was on repeating the words in my head, keep on keeping on you are also doing it for the suffering voiceless in Zimbabwe.
I had competed another WALK FOR FREEDOM CAMPAIGN for Zimbabwe to bring global attention to the systematic injustices, political repression and accountability.
I will continue my walk for freedom in different ways for a better Zimbabwe , a better future and against tyranny and exploitation.
